Winter Break is one of those times that is awesome!.. and also a little long. There's so much time to hang out with family and friends and also catch up on sleep, but then there's the "what-do-I-do-now" moments. To remedy that, we thought that perhaps we could make the best use of the time by reading The Good Life by Chuck Colson together! This way, we can not only read a good book, but also keep in touch as we discuss some themes or aspects of the book that we appreciate. So what is The Good Life about, and who is this Chuck Colson?
Book info:
Sharing from his own life, as well as the stories of others, Chuck Colson exposes the counterfeits of the good life and leads readers to the only true source of meaning and purpose, Jesus Christ. But he does that in an unusual way, allowing powerful stories to illustrate how people have lived out their beliefs in ways that either satisfy or leave them empty. Colson addresses seekers - people looking for the truth. He shows through stories that the truth is knowable and that the truly good life is one that lives within the truth. Through the book, readers get to understand their own stories and find answers to their own search for meaning, purpose, and truth.
Bio:
Chuck Colson was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Oct 16, 1931. He served as a member of the White House Counsel to President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1973. During that time, he was involved in the Watergate Scandal and pleaded guilty to the obstruction of justice. After becoming Christian in 1973, he served 7 months in Maxwell Prison. His mid-life conversion to Christianity sparked a radical life change that led him to found a non-profit ministry called Prison Fellowship and to focus on Christian worldview teaching and training. He also was a public speaker, the author of 30+ books, founder and chairman of The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, and spoke for a BreakPoint Radio. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President George W. Bush. In early 2011, he personally encouraged us when he visited U.C. Berkeley's Gracepoint Church as a speaker for a Worldview Conference. On April 21, 2012, Chuck Colson passed away at the age of 80.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. ~ Eph 5:15-16
Study hard for finals next week! May Winter Break soon commence! :)
